Sustainability in ICT was the focus of the latest webinar organized by CEEI Castellón, in which the director of R&D&I and Continuous Improvement of Gimeno GroupGuillermo Berlanga, and the managing director of IoTsens, Ignacio Llopis.
During the virtual meeting, the role of ICTs as enabling technologies in corporate sustainability projects was explored in depth. In this regard, Berlanga emphasized the need for “decision-making to always be based on the most comprehensive information possible, with data being a key element.” She also reviewed some ICT applications at Grupo Gimeno, citing as an example the proactive detection of waste in waterways through computer simulation of fluids and online sensors. Finally, Berlanga presented projects such as Covid Water and Portmod, a tool to improve operations at the southern dock of PortCastelló by modeling the impact of pollution.
A round table discussion followed, moderated by Berlanga himself, in which several success stories in the field of corporate sustainability were presented. Ignacio Llopis cited the experience with the Torrent City Council as an example of such an application. The Valencian council entrusted the company with the installation of an intelligent lighting system that incorporates a data channel, currently supported by more than 700 sensors, enabling everything from controlling the intensity of each light point to the intelligent irrigation of parks and gardens.
Regarding the digital technology that will have the greatest impact in the future, all participants agreed that the most disruptive is Artificial Intelligence, although in combination with others such as Blockchain or computer vision.
This was the second session of the entrepreneurship forum focused on the circular economy, organized by CCEI Castellón as part of “Focus SMEs and Entrepreneurship.” This initiative is promoted and funded by the Valencian Government through the Valencian Institute of Business Competitiveness (IVACE), within its policy of supporting innovative entrepreneurship.
