We carried out the coastal stabilization works in the municipalities of La Llosa and Almenara (Castellón), promoted by the Directorate General for the Sustainability of the Coast and the Sea of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge. The project was developed by the joint venture Esestabilización La Llosa–Almenara, formed by SATO (70%) and Nealis Infraestructuras (30%).
The project aimed to stabilize a stretch of coastline affected by coastal regression processes, through the construction of defense infrastructure and the addition of material for the regeneration of the coastline, in order to reduce erosion and achieve a position of equilibrium of the coastal system.
The project is notable for the construction of eight groyne piers and the addition of large volumes of material for the regeneration of the coastal system, including over 268.000 m³ of granular material, 136.000 m³ of quarry gravel, and additional beach aggregate, which were used to fill the cells between the groynes and reinforce the stability of the seafront. Furthermore, 28.492 m³ of sand was added south of the Queralt Inlet as a compensatory measure.
The project also incorporated specific environmental measures for the protection of natural areas of the Natura 2000 Network and sensitive marine ecosystems, ensuring an intervention compatible with the preservation of the coastal environment and its biodiversity.
