FOVASA The company has unveiled its new waste collection service, which will begin operating fully in Ontinyent on June 15th. This initiative represents one of the most significant upgrades to the city's waste management system. The company is reinforcing the service with additional staff, a new fleet of low-emission vehicles, and smart technology designed to improve efficiency and sustainability.
The implementation of the contract entails a significant increase in human and material resources. The staff will grow from 23 to 44 operators, in addition to an administrative assistant, a supervisor, and two permanent environmental educators. Furthermore, during the initial months of implementation, more than a dozen environmental educators will support the efforts to inform and guide the public.
In terms of operations, FOVASA is adding a fleet of nine collection trucks, tripling the number of vehicles previously used for the service. They are also adding a crane truck, a vehicle specifically designed for cleaning containers and collection areas, and several electric vans for service coordination and environmental education activities.
One of the main advances of the new model is the incorporation of smart technology for monitoring and tracking waste collection. The vehicles are equipped with GPS systems, integrated scales, and chip readers for identification in bins and containers—tools that will allow for obtaining precise data on contributions made and move towards pay-as-you-throw models aligned with European regulations.
The new service managed by FOVASA also expands the available services. Among the improvements are an increased frequency of selective waste collection, enhanced organic waste collection for large producers, more frequent container cleaning, and an expansion of the bulky waste collection service from one to two days per week.
Services in outlying areas have also been strengthened through the installation of new containers for all types of waste. Residents will also have access to a mobile application to submit their contributions and access information related to the service, as well as a dedicated customer service office located on Major Street.
With this renewal, FOVASA consolidates its commitment to more efficient, digitized and sustainable waste management, contributing to improving the quality of service and moving towards the circular economy objectives set by European regulations.
