The 2nd Castellón Energy Congress, organized by the Castellón Chamber of Commerce under the theme "Technology and Innovation for a Sustainable Energy Future," saw significant participation from Grupo Gimeno, further solidifying its leading role at the event. The congress brought together prominent professionals from the energy sector, researchers, academics, and companies, who shared insights on the challenges and opportunities of the energy transition.
Julio Masid, general manager of ObremoMasid was one of the keynote speakers, participating in the second session of the day with a presentation entitled “Challenges and Opportunities in the Implementation of Diversified Energy Projects: Telecommunications, Renewables, Electricity, and Gas.” In his presentation, Masid emphasized the importance of diversification and sustainability in the development of energy projects. “Technological advancements and the integration of telecommunications with smart energy management are opening up new opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs.”
Masid also highlighted the historical evolution of the Spanish energy sector, as well as Spain's bright future in the field of renewable energy: “From the beginnings of photovoltaics in the 80s to the projection of being able to cover almost 75% of electricity demand with renewable sources by 2030, Spain has proven to be a leader in the adoption of clean energy.” Furthermore, Masid also moderated the panel discussion on “sustainable energy consumption alternatives: hydrogen, biogas, and solar,” where he explained the crucial role these energy sources will play in the decarbonization of challenging sectors such as heavy transport.
On the other hand, Rafael Benjumea, Director of Large Energy Accounts at Obremo, moderated the panel discussion: “Energy Saving Certificates (CAES): Efficiency, Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence,” in which Ana Llorens, Operations Director of [company name missing], participated. Portsur alongside representatives from SinCeO2, Delcae, and Balantia Energy. During this discussion, Llorens highlighted the importance of investing in electrification "to mitigate the environmental impact of port terminals, reducing the use of fossil fuels such as diesel and, therefore, the carbon footprint of port activities."
The congress also highlighted the challenges facing the energy sector, such as regulatory complexity and the need for infrastructure investment. Likewise, it emphasized current opportunities, including grants and funding, and the global expansion of Spanish companies in the renewable energy sector.
