Nealis Infraestructuras boosts its construction and real estate activity with more than 80 active projects

BiovicTogether with the Spanish Gas Association, Sedigas and PwC, it has participated in the preparation of the report "Study of the biomethane production capacity in Spain, 2023" which highlights the positive impact that biomethane would have in Spain.
One of the main conclusions of the study is that we are dealing with a source of renewable energy, with characteristics similar to natural gas, increasingly relevant to achieving the ambitious decarbonization goals set at the national and European levels, as well as reducing energy dependence on foreign sources.
After analyzing the leading European countries in the development of the biomethane sector, the authors call for a more ambitious national plan for Spain that would allow the country to take advantage of the opportunity it has to position itself among the main energy powers of the European Union.
To this end, the report emphasizes the urgent need to eliminate the identified administrative, economic, and fiscal barriers and to establish support mechanisms capable of promoting and positioning biomethane as an economically viable alternative to achieve the energy transition and make the most of its potential, since Spain is considered one of the EU countries with the greatest potential for developing this renewable gas.
In fact, according to the results of this report, if this potential were fully realized, it would be possible to cover around 45% of total natural gas demand. Furthermore, its development would also facilitate progress towards a circular economy model, derived from the use of organic waste from sectors such as wastewater treatment, livestock farming, and agriculture, and would provide a significant local socioeconomic boost thanks to its capacity to attract investment and create jobs in rural areas.
Finally, it should be noted that the study provides an in-depth analysis of all the available potential at the national level and a deeper focus on the biomethane generation potential of each of the Autonomous Communities, breaking it down to the level of the districts that make up each Autonomous Community, which allows identifying the real potential they hold in their territories.
