Foz promotes a strategic modernization of its urban water cycle with a new management contract

Sitra[Company Name], an expert in the technological transformation of the water cycle for industry, has formalized its membership in the BIO-based Industries Consortium (BIC), a European non-profit organization created by the EU to strengthen the bioproducts industry sector on the continent, encompassing the entire value chain from production to market. By joining BIC, the Spanish company reinforces its commitment to contributing to the transition from the current industrial model to a more sustainable one. This membership has also allowed it to participate in the European MixMatters project, funded by the ECB-JU.
In this way, it combines its expertise with that of 120 other industries, as well as research organizations, academic institutions, and trade associations that are part of this consortium to mitigate climate change and make the European bioindustry a leader in innovation, sustainability, and competitiveness. Members include companies from diverse sectors and names such as Unilever, P&G, Michelin, Cargill, Dow, and AB InBey. The consortium's objective is to represent the private sector within the Public-Private Partnership promoted by the European Commission.
EU-BIC collaboration agreement
This consortium has a collaboration agreement with the EU for the period 2020-2030: the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking, for which it has a budget of €2 billion. The objective of this project is to overcome the current challenges faced by these industries and their bioproducts—those derived from renewable bio-based materials—which contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions.2 as well as the dependence on fossil fuels to achieve the climate goals proposed for 2050.
Participating in BIC provides SITRA with the opportunity to stay at the forefront of the latest developments in the bioindustry sector and collaborate in defining its future trends, as well as access ongoing training and participate in the development of innovative projects. In these projects, SITRA works closely with other members of the consortium, as well as with public institutions, which are increasingly investing in these types of industries.
For example, SITRA will now participate in the development of the Strategic Innovation and Research Agenda (SIRA), which defines the activities to be carried out within the framework of the CBE JU agreement, while also encouraging the development of the bioeconomy in the EU.
BIC is also a founding member of the European Bioeconomy Alliance (EUBA). This organization represents around 4.700 companies and aims to promote and raise awareness of the potential of the bioeconomy in Europe, as well as to make it a widely adopted part of the mainstream economy.
“Sitra’s incorporation into BIC confirms our commitment to the circular economy, the reuse of waste, and reducing our dependence on fossil fuels, with the aim of achieving sustainable development within the EU framework, while also meeting the UN’s sustainable development goals in this area,” said Ricardo Sáez, CEO of SITRA.
