Foz promotes a strategic modernization of its urban water cycle with a new management contract

The UN has been warning for years about the need to take urgent action to reduce the loss of natural habitats and biodiversity. Through its Sustainable Development Goal number 15, 'Protecting life on land', the organization focuses on the need to conserve the land and protect the species that interact within it.
In this context and within its commitment to promoting more sustainable environments, the Provincial Council of Castellón and Facsa They have launched a wild bird nesting project that will fulfill a dual environmental objective. On the one hand, it will help conserve biodiversity by supporting pest control and creating effective habitats, and on the other, it will contribute to the naturalization of the facilities that the company manages in the province.
Specifically, this innovative project includes, in this first phase, the installation of 50 nest boxes in 25 Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs) managed by the Provincial Council and FacsaThe nest boxes, built with pine wood and of the "balcony" type due to their simplicity and versatility for many bird species, have been installed before the breeding season to eliminate artificial smells, the trace of handling and to encourage the birds to become accustomed to seeing them when they begin to look for a place to nest.
For the selection of installation sites, the technical team has prioritized those located in areas of greatest interest for biodiversity. This will also help to later verify the variety of bird species in different areas of the province.
Last Friday, Member of Parliament Ignasi García visited the Vilafranca Wastewater Treatment Plant to learn about the project firsthand, accompanied by Sergio Alonso, Deputy Director of Wastewater Treatment Operations at Facsa, and Fernando Mañas, the company's Area Coordinator. During the visit, García indicated that "the aim of both entities is to extend the initiative to new facilities soon."
It is also important to highlight that this initiative fulfills the objective of improving the socio-labor integration of people in situations of social exclusion, since the creation of the nest boxes has been entrusted to the Pre-Ocupat workshop of Cáritas, a workshop that, under the methodology of service-learning, allows people who are in situations of exclusion to live significant experiences of pre-labor training and community service.
