A pioneering chair is created at the University of Valencia that connects water and bioenergy to address environmental challenges.

Fovasa EnvironmentWith the support of Facsa, a significant initiative has been carried out to promote environmental sustainability in the public schools CEIP El Bracal and CEIP Montcabrer, located in the town of Muro de Alcoy.
The initiative, which has been carried out in collaboration with the Muro de Alcoy City Council and SERUNION catering, responsible for providing meals to the municipal schools, has focused on implementing containers specifically designed for collecting organic waste at the aforementioned schools. This waste will then be processed at the Spanish pilot plant of the SYMSITES project, led by FACSA and located at the Alcoy Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).
SYMSITES aims to advance towards a circular economy that closes the materials cycle through the development of various technologies that highlight the importance of urban-industrial symbiosis. Therefore, this initiative represents a significant step towards sustainable waste management and the promotion of a circular economy in the region.
In addition to implementing containers for separating this waste stream, FOVASA has carried out activities aimed at fostering a sustainable culture within the school community. This has included showing an educational video focused on the importance of recycling and its positive impact on the environment.
An exciting group game was also organized, where the children were challenged to correctly separate different types of waste. This activity aimed not only to educate them about proper waste management but also to encourage their active and practical participation in environmental preservation.
This collaboration reflects a powerful synergy between the company and the educational community. This synergy exemplifies how businesses and local institutions can join forces to effectively address environmental challenges.
The SYMSITES project has been funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe program, under grant number 101058426, and is entitled “Industrial Urban symbiosis and its social, economic and environmental impact on different European regions” (SYMSITES). However, the opinions expressed are solely those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the views of the European Union. Neither the European Union nor the granting authority can be held responsible for them.
