Foz promotes a strategic modernization of its urban water cycle with a new management contract

FacsaThe Spanish private company with the most years of experience in the integrated water cycle will carry out an ambitious improvement plan at the Alzira Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) after winning the contract for its operation and maintenance. The contract has a duration of four years, with the option to extend for one more, and an annual budget of €2,1 million.
The company's objective is to increase the efficiency of its facilities, focusing on sustainability and technological innovation in wastewater treatment. In this regard, Facsa aims to optimize the plant's energy performance, which serves nearly 160.000 residents of the municipalities of Alzira and Carcaixent, as well as reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve the quality of the water returned to the environment, minimizing the sludge and residue discharged from the plant.
To achieve this, the company will install a photovoltaic plant to promote self-consumption and will replace all the wastewater treatment plant's lighting with LED technology. It will also install a new sludge dewatering system that will reduce the plant's electricity consumption and the amount of sludge removed.
Furthermore, it will optimize one of the key stages of the wastewater treatment process: the anaerobic digestion of sludge. This action will increase biogas production and management, and therefore electricity production in cogeneration, as well as reduce the amount of sludge to be disposed of. During the contract period, the company will also carry out the refurbishment of the biological reactors to improve energy efficiency and energy control in the treatment process.
At a technological level, Facsa The company will upgrade all the wastewater treatment plant's automation and external pumping systems using the latest technology. This project will leverage the knowledge and applications the company has integrated under the Waternology brand, which brings together all the technological potential the company applies to the intelligent management of the entire water cycle through various digital tools.
With these actions, Facsa is reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency in water cycle management. As they point out, “these improvements will not only benefit the residents of Alzira and Carcaixent, but also exemplify our goal of moving towards water management based on the principles of the circular economy, in the most efficient and sustainable way possible, and aligned with our commitment to promoting innovation and sustainability in all our processes.”
