Foz promotes a strategic modernization of its urban water cycle with a new management contract

“We want you to understand the importance of water, from its origin in the natural environment, through its use, to its return to that natural environment.” With this statement, the Together for Water project began in Sarrión, a joint initiative of the Júcar River Basin Authority (CHJ) and Facsa They aim to teach over a thousand children that water is a vital resource that we must protect. The initiative is part of the work carried out under the agreement signed by both organizations at the beginning of last October, which is valid for four years.
Sara Jiménez, head of the CHJ outreach project, and Pilar Soria, CSR director of FacsaThey were in charge of delivering the first of the six sessions aimed at children and young people that the project plans to take to different municipalities within the territorial scope of both entities.
The town of Sarrión in Teruel province was the first stop on a project that aims to raise awareness about the importance of responsible water use throughout the region, both in cities and rural areas. Until now, both organizations carried out outreach activities on demand; that is, schools requested the outreach activities. With "Together for Water," the approach changes. "We are the ones who contact the schools and propose the activities, since the goal is to bring this initiative to rural areas and involve students who have more difficulty accessing these kinds of programs," Jiménez explained.
The format may change, but the message remains the same. “The objective is still the same: to raise awareness among schoolchildren about the importance of using water responsibly. We also emphasize that water must be conserved because it is not unlimited, and to do this, it is important that they understand how the water cycle works,” Soria stressed.
Fifth and sixth grade students from the CEIP Sarrión school (Teruel), divided into two groups of 20, have embarked on this adventure by venturing into freshwater through an interactive game. In the game, Maya and her friend Niza, two fish who live in the sea, travel upriver to discover their birthplace: a high mountain river. However, along this journey, the children discover many dangers stemming from the problems humans have created in the river.
After helping Maya and Niza achieve their goal, they met the protagonists of The Course of Water, five animated characters who, through state-of-the-art educational tools such as augmented reality, guide the explanation of the most relevant aspects in the management of the integral water cycle.
Together for Water
The Júcar River Basin Authority (CHJ) and Facsa, the Spanish private company with the most experience in integrated water cycle management, have joined forces in the Together for Water project to achieve greater effectiveness in the actions both entities undertake to promote water conservation and environmental improvement in water use, raising awareness of the importance of the integrated water cycle. To this end, they have signed a collaboration agreement to implement joint actions to achieve the stated objectives, in this case, within the framework of grassroots environmental education.
The Together for Water project will travel through the rest of the territorial scope of both entities next year: Alcoi (January 26), Mosqueruela (March 14), Castellón (March 22), Alcora (May 22) and La Puebla de Valverde (June 5).
