Foz promotes a strategic modernization of its urban water cycle with a new management contract

the hotel chain IntelierGrupo Gimeno, part of the Grupo Gimeno, has announced that a new establishment will open in Benicasim in 2026 on the grounds of the Azor hotel, a project the company is 'especially excited' about.
“The Azor Hotel is important to us; it marked a milestone in our history as it was the first establishment with which Grupo Gimeno entered the tourism sector in 1963. Therefore, we don't want its demolition to be the end of 60 years of history, but quite the opposite. We want our new project to become, like its predecessor, a true emblem of the city of Benicasim.” This is how Myriam Gimeno, CEO of Intelier and Managing Director of [Company Name], introduced the project. Gimeno Group, the presentation of the hotel chain's new establishment in the town of Castellón.
The new project is a hotel-apartment, an accommodation model that Intelier has already successfully implemented in other cities and with which it reinterprets the traditional concept of accommodation, responding to new needs and offering flexibility, optimal location and the highest standards of service, quality and design that characterize the company.
It will feature 110 premium suite apartments with a modern, distinctly Mediterranean design by the architecture firm Medrano Saez. In addition, the new building will include a rooftop terrace, parking, a swimming pool, and a state-of-the-art bike center. With this, Intelier aims to offer services that help to reduce the seasonality of the activity by providing an attractive product for sports tourism.
Guests will be able to enjoy both the advantages offered by a premium apartment and the services of a hotel.
As the company has indicated, it will be part of the 'Core Suites' category, a brand under which Intelier includes its hotel-apartments in Valencia and Seville, and the objective is that, together with Intelier Bonaire and Intelier Orange, it will complete the offer that the company provides to the different profiles of tourists who visit Benicasim.
Azor: A hotel with a rich history
The Azor began its journey in the sixties when Grupo Gimeno acquired the land from Eurosol to the N-340 and commissioned the architect Enrique Roca to build this building, which represented an investment of approximately 6 million pesetas.
Next to the hotel, a whole complex of services and activities was created to accommodate the tourist boom of the time: a mini-golf course, a swimming pool and the Bohio party room, which was inaugurated months later by the Eurovision winner Salomé.
In those years, the hotel welcomed entire families who stayed for extended periods, sometimes exceeding a month. Therefore, during this time, "they were more than just our guests; they were part of our family."
“We want to thank all the families who have been loyal to the hotel for over 60 years, everyone who was at the opening with my father, and of course, those who have been part of our team these past few years. Thanks to all of you, we have been able to embark on this exciting and renewed project that we are sure you will love. So this is not a final goodbye; we hope to see you again in 2026,” Gimeno emphasized.
Finally, it is worth remembering that the Azor will always be part of the history of the Valencian Community since it was in one of its rooms where the preliminary draft of the Statute of Autonomy of the Valencian Country (1981) known as the Statute of Benicàssim was written..
National expansion
The Castellón-based chain Intelier, formerly known as Hoteles Intur, has doubled in size over the last five years thanks to the addition of new establishments, the most recent being the Hotel Rosella, which marked the company's arrival in Mallorca last summer.
In addition to the one in Mallorca, it is worth highlighting the opening of Core Suites Valencia, which joined its other establishments in cities such as Madrid, Seville, San Sebastian, Ciudad Real, Benicàssim and Castelló.
With this new establishment, along with the recently announced project in Malvarrosa (Valencia) and the new additions planned in its expansion plan, the chain will continue to strengthen its position both in the Valencian Community and in the rest of Spain with a premium product that seeks the highest excellence.
